Bill Dobell understands and can web white like a spider who has the complexity of eye of a mantis shrimp. As gossimer, stands of titanium and zinc oxide create a world from nothing, as if form was made from delicate cigarette ash placed perfectly around the finest of softest duckling-down, then breathed into form effortlessly.
I have always been a poor man yet in spite of this, I have gone without so many things just to possess a couple of his drawings. Come to think of it, they’re the only original art I’ve acquired which weren’t made by women, something I didn’t realise until I wrote this.
I would have to be be Bill Dobell to understand his palette and forms.
Never would I ever pretend to.
These are perfect unto themelves and complete in everyway.
Where I can be inspired, that’s all I need to sail on.
Using a camera as a brush, there is a section next to Bondi Icebergs which in the morning can deliver a Wangi greenish light, together with waves I can stitch together into circular forms which, in their own way, can do no more than smile towards the the pure genius of Bill Dobell.
